Wonderfully staged and you can wisely dialogued, it has zero great complications inside life down the extremely ugly term.” [ 8 ]

Cobb), and a scuffling actress (Evelyn Keyes) whose sister (Nina Foch) did during the gambling enterprise and dated an excellent corrupt detective (Jim Bannon). The fresh caustically epigrammatic software, this new cast’s suavely regulated body gestures out-of like and you will menace, and Rossen’s thrillingly controlled and you will smartly cocky pictures (in addition to his political conscience) make this pugnacious yet , outlined spectacle a hidden classic of your own style.” [ ten ]

It is primarily a matter of viewing Mr. Powell proceed through his paces smartly if you find yourself a huge cast regarding actors and you can actresses give him classic help. Evelyn Keyes performs the favorable little woman which brings out the new finest in him and Ellen Drew is the smooth and slinky vixen which will get him into the jams. Thomas Gomez was fatty due to the fact villain and Lee J. Cobb does a separate able tour due to the fact a weary cops inspector just who in the long run shuts the actual situation. A great amount of drinking and you can smoking is performed by every worried.” [ several ]
